Edit: After half day, my wife’s Mac started having the same problem. I have then applied the solution that I found in the Apple
Windows On a Mac
Mac software means that you no longer need a windows machine to use windows products. It also makes the transfer to a mac a lot easier and a lot less painful, because you don’t have to convert all of your precious files to a new type. Those who use PCs that run windows technology like the Microsoft works suit will be so familiar with the layout and use of these programs that the thought of learning something new could be the sole reason why you don’t change to the bigger, better, and faster mac. However, you’ll be pleased to know that there are three main ways around this.
The first is that you can divide your mac hard drive into two partitions- one for mac and one for PC. This means that you can keep your windows documents and files on one side while running mac on the other. There are apps that also allow these two to run side by side in two different windows. Every new mac comes with boot camp, the app that allows you to partition your hard drive making room for windows. There are some windows programs that as yet do not have a mac counterpart and if you need these for school or work it can be a nuisance having to use two different computers. Boot camp is like having two different computers in the same case.
However, you don’t need to keep a hold of your PC on a mac with the great apps in the iWorks suit. Pages is the mac version of Word, only it is a lot more user friendly and has a lot of themes that you can choose from. You’re no longer trapped with the dreaded blank page with Pages- you just open the app from the dock and pick one from 180 different themes. There are ones for a newspaper, a broacher, a flyer, and even a school report or a thesis. But the best thing about Pages for a windows person is that Pages can open just about any file. This means that you can not only access your .doc and .docx word files on a mac but you can edit them as well. Pages keeps the formatting so it’s like nothing has changed. Simply drag and drop the word document on top of the Pages icon in the dock and it will open ready for you to continue editing. You can also save to a Microsoft file type in case you have to send it to someone on a PC. When you’re saving the file remember to click to save it as a word document and you’ll have the .doc ready to go.
The third way to keep your Microsoft love while using a mac is to pick up a copy of Microsoft Office for Mac. Office for Mac has a mac compatible version of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and these work exactly the same as they do on a windows PC. You can now create word documents with ease utilising all of the best things about a mac but knowing that everyone else will be able to access your documents, too.
