Why An iPad Is Better For You At Work

Why An iPad Is Better For You At Work

The iPad 2 is in the news again with China finally getting the rights to sell this product on its shores. Until now Chinese citizens have had to import an iPad 2 from other countries but from the 21st of September they can buy them at one of four Apple stores and countless resellers. With the world looking at the iPad 2 again I thought I’d do a quick article comparing the iPad against laptops and tell you why the iPad is better for you at work.

First things first, size isn’t everything but it does count for a lot when it comes to getting too the office. The iPad is one of the most portable devices in the world because of its size, shape, and weight. Smaller than an A4 sheet of paper and weighing only .6kg the iPad 2 is the perfect size to hold in one hand as well as to slide into a full briefcase or handbag. You will barely notice the inclusion so you can zip around town or across campus without feeling the strain on your arms or back.

The size and shape also make it easy to use while on the go. I know from experience that writing a report on your laptop on a busy train isn’t an easy thing to do. Moving a bulky item around in rush hour is hard enough and then you have to find a seat with enough room and stability to keep the computer on your lap as you type. This is where, again, the iPad pays off; you don’t need a lot of room to use it and you can change around the screen between reading and typing modes. You can also buy a Blue Tooth keyboard for when you’re doing serious typing. Reading is also very easy when you’re on the go with an iPad. The device is light enough to be held in one hand so if you don’t get a seat you can hold on with one hand while holding your iPad in the other.

You will also have access to more reading materials with an iPad. While some publishers release books in multiple formats, many only bring them out to be read with an eBook reader which you can only got on tablet PCs. The world of literature is open to you with the iBook app which stores and catalogues all of your reading materials. This app is like having your entire book collection available at the touch of your fingers as well as having access to a book store. You can change the text size and font as well as the reading orientation and brightness to make it easier for you to read no matter where you are. You can always take a book with you but reading on the iPad is better if you’re travelling light or if you want to read something different on your way back from work as you did on the way to work.

Work is also easier with an iPad because of the connectivity of the operating system. You can create a report from start to finish on the device and send it off to the boss without ever having touched a computer. Creating and editing reports is easy with the iPad version of iWorks and you can collaborate with colleagues via e-mail or messenger services. If you prefer face to face communication you can video chat with them via FaceTime. Calendar alerts can beep or buzz and they can even be set to remind your team members about important deadlines. When you’re done you can e-mail the finished product to your boss or you can upload it to the iCloud server and wait for him or her to download it themselves. Of course you can do all of these on a laptop computer but even the most portable laptop still requires you to settle down while you’re using it. The iPad has a ten hour battery life so you can use it all day without having to plug into anything (3G and some apps use more battery life than others) and you don’t have to worry about getting sand or dirt into the iPad’s keys.

The iPad 2 is good for business so increase yours today.
