US Patent Office Upholds Apple's Touch Screen Patent

The US patent and Trademark office has upheld Apples Patents regarding touch screen technology and the move could have a serious impact on court cases involving either Samsung or Google.

The patent for touch screen technology was filed for by Apple back in 2008 listing Apple’s co-founder, Steve Wozniack as chief inventor along with a list of 28 other people.

The patent, referred to by many as “the Steve Jobs patent,” covers a “touch-screen device, method, and graphical user interface for determining commands by applying heuristics.”

The patent was initially invalidated before the patent office issued a re-examination that reaffirmed all 20 claims including the patent.

Apple has recently been in a legal battle with several other companies who use the Google Android operating system which saw some of Samsung’s products banned last year.

With some court cases still in the works and others planned in the future it would seem that Google and Samsung are going to have a pretty hard time fighting any future patents successfully.
