Turning off the Spotlight
There are many people who do not like working with Spotlight. It uses a lot of processing time and disk space as well. Turning it off will increase your system performance. Plus, turning it off is easy and there are many ways to do that. Most of these methods are about changing system files. Though changing files is simple, but if done incorrectly, it can harm the steadiness of your system and land you in problems.
This is why we are going to show you how you can switch off Spotlight without tampering with any files.
You can change its settings by going to Spotlight under Preferences. Select the Privacy option from the tabs on the upper part of the Window. You can exclude folders, drives and files from scanning using this option. It helps in case you do not want some files to show in search results.
Now to turn Spotlight off, press the plus button present in the lower part of the window. Select your Mac drive and other devices that are on your computer and append them to that list. These folders and files will be left out from Spotlight and will not be added to index. That’s it- you’re done!
This is not the ideal solution, and there might be some services of Spotlight running in the background. But if you wish to use an easy technique to stop it, this is the perfect one. Of course you can change the background services too, but that would require a lot of hard work.
And this process is easily reversible as well. You just have to visit the menu and take off the drives that you listed.
