The Newest Of The New
Here is a quick rundown of the newest Apple products to hit the shelves this year, plus some rumours on what is to come next year.
As we all know, Apple like to keep everything they do under wraps so it’s hard to know for sure what rumours are true and which are just, well rumours, but another thing we know is that Apple is always on the cutting edge of tech so whatever they bring out next year is going to be better, faster, and clearer than what was released in 2011.
First up is the iPhone 4S. We’ll get this one out of the way pretty quickly because there has already been so much written on this item that it’s hard to open any browser window without being bombarded with a review or video. The iPhone 4S is the fastest iPhone that Apple has to offer with a duel core processor but it also comes with an intelligent antenna system. The phone now comes with two antennas that will switch back and forward between each other when signal quality drops, thus ensuring a clear call no matter where you are. After the antennagate scandal from the iPhone 4 people aren’t surprised that this changed was made to the new model and it’s likely that all iPhone’s from now on will have this. The other great thing about the iPhone 4S is Siri, the (according to Apple) “intelligent personal assistant”. Siri was designed to understand basic human speak as well as to adapt to everyone’s unique individual way of talking. With Siri you have true hands free use of your phone because you can use her to reply to a text message (she takes dictation), create a reminder and/or calendar event, check the traffic, place a call, and much more. Siri is in the beta stage and Apple promises many updates and upgrades in her future.
Next up is the iPad 2, released earlier this year and has thus fallen by the wayside thanks to the iPhone 4S. The iPad 2 is thinner and lighter than the iPad 1 and it comes with a new accessory. The Smart Cover not only protects your screen from damage if you accidentally drop it, but it’s also designed to put your device to sleep and to wake it up when the cover is opened. It also acts as a stand so you can prop your iPad 2 up with the Smart Cover and always have it at the perfect angle. The iPad 2 also comes with two cameras, one on the front and one on the back. This makes connecting video chats and taking photos a lot easier and a lot more fun.
The iPad 3 rumours are already flying thick and fast with reports coming from overseas manufacturers saying they are working on not one but two screens of a possible iPad 3. The size or shape of the screens hasn’t been released yet, but people are thinking that Apple may be looking to release a smaller tablet to compete against the Amazon Fire. Other reports say that Apple may have found true retina display for the large iPad screen.
A new mac book air was released this year, too. It now comes with a Thunderbolt port where users can plug in a wide variety of high speed accessories such as a USB stick or the new Apple Thunderbolt display. It also uses flash storage which means it will turn on and wake up from sleep much quicker than any of the previous versions.
OS X Lion was released not too long ago and already people are singing its praises. One of the main selling features of the new Lion is its ability to work with track pads. Since the success and ease of use of the iPod, iPad, and iPhone Apple have integrated the touch screen aspects of these devices into laptop and desktop computing. Rather than just using the track pad on a mac book for scrolling or navigating users can now use it to swipe between pages and pinch to zoom in on a picture or web page. To coincide with this, Apple have released the Magic Trackpad and Magic Mouse, both of which work best with OS X Lion and both of which enable to user to navigate around and use their desktop mac like they do an iPad.
