iTunes Still Dominates Digital Music Sales

iTunes Still Dominates Digital Music Sales

And yet, with Spotify, Amazon Music, Napster etc you’d think iTunes would have trouble keeping its popularity up. However, in the usual Apple fashion, iTunes still dominates 65% of all digital music downloads. Beating 3 times over Amazons popular music services which had a share of 22%. It’s estimated 8 out of 10 music buyers online use iTunes instead of other competitors.

This data has come alight due to The NPD’s recent quarterly report on the state of music sales.
The report is not just good news for Apple though, it shows how little downloads have increased over the last few years, with only 6% more downloads per year, per buyer. This maybe heavily due to the ability to illegally download music from popular file sharing sites easily. More and more people resort to this method and its defiantly showing the effects on music download stats.

If Apple wants to continue to share the music industry, then now maybe a good time to focus on their impending radio service. So could we be seeing an ‘iRadio’? It’s defiantly a bit too distant yet but don’t be surprised if Apple begin to offer more streaming services of the coming months.
