iPad as flight bag replacement in America
FAA is finally allowing iPad use in cockpits as an alternative to all the 35 pounds of tradtional manuals and emergency documentation. American Airlines are set to take the tablet in the skies this friday since July the iPad has been approved by the FAA but has not been in use until now! ZDNet claims American Airlines will be the first to get official authorization for al pilots to use the device
American Airlines is the first airline in the world to be fully FAA
iPads during all phases of flight
Electronic charts and manuals, the safety and efficiency on the flight deck is significantly enhanced.
Both the iPad 2 and iPad have been approved. Other airlines such as UPS, Alaska and United are considering its use. The iPad had an extensize 6 month trial run before (so plenty of chances to take a power lead onboard!)
The new device will save $1.2 million in fuel savings per year! We are sure it will be a success… until they lose wifi connection!
Ironically, a few weeks back Celebrity Alec Baldwin gets kicked off American Airlines flight for using his iPad. Baldwin, who among other things Tweets like crazy from his iPhone, was taken off an American Airline plane for playing addictive iPad game Words with Friends.
