As the a lot more people are making the sensible decision and making the move to Mac from PC’s a lot of people are becoming stuck when trying to find a way to export their iTunes library.
Open iTunes on your windows machine go to File > Library>Export Library
Save the .xml file to your choice of portable media
Right click on a track in iTunes then “Show In Windows Explore”
Once in Windows Explore find the iTunes Media folder which should contain all your music , Then copy that folder to your portable media
Now move over to your mac
First go to iTunes > Preferences > Advanced and make sure the box above is ticked
Paste / Transfer both the .xml file the the iTunes Media folder to your new Mac. Change the name of the folder from iTunes Media to “itunesmusic”
Open the .xml file in text edit
Next ctrl and click on the itunesmusic folder > Get Info and copy the directory after Where :
Back in the .xml Edit > Find > Find and Replace
You need to replace what is in theMusic Folderwith the directory you got for your itunesmusic folder so it should look something like file://Users/djcrosby101/Desktop/itunesmusic , Make sure you click replace all
After Closing & Saving the .xml Open iTunes File > Library > Import Playlist Then select your edited .xml file
All you songs and information should now be imported. This methods worked for us going from Windows XP to OS X Mountain Lion.
