Foldify for iPad App Review

Just when you think you have seen everything the iPad can do, it shows you something new or, in this case, something old that you would associate more with an actual pad of paper, rather than an electronic one. But then finding innovative new ways to translate activities to the iPad’s interface is something he iPad excels at, which is why the art of folding paper now has its own app. Foldify is available now from the App Store for the introductory price of $1.99 so if you are feeling creative, now is the time to get it.

As its name suggests, Foldify is an app that creates designs for you to print off and fold into 3D shapes. While you will still need to physically fold the designs yourself, the app makes the design phase a quick and simple process that will allow you to realise your creations much quicker than if you were to do everything yourself the old-fashioned way. One of the benefits of using Foldify is that your designs can come out flawless. Any mistakes you make before printing them can easily be fixed and if you manage to mess up the folding part, you can always print off another design and try again. This is also made easier by the fact that you can test your design by viewing a 3D model of it within the app so you can see exactly how well it will turn out.

The first thing you need to do is choose the shape of your model and there is a huge range of options on offer, from figures to cars and many more. Once you have selected one, you can then move onto painting them. For this the app gives you a brush and a palette but there are also various stamps you can stick on if your design is a little too complex for painting accurately. These include facial features, such as eyes, and other things, such as car windows, depending on what you are designing of course. You are aided with painting by the ability to zoom in so you can paint ore detailed areas accurately and it will not take long to get the hang of this stage.

With your design complete you can then use an AirPrint printer to print out the design of your model. However if this is not an option you can opt to convert it to a PDF file and email it for printing in another location.  Print it out and then all you have to do is fold it together. The whole process is an easy one with intuitive controls and there are a lot of models to choose from so it should keep you busy too. if that isn’t enough, you can also upload your own designs to the gallery, share them and rate the work of others.

This is a fun little app that really suits the iPad. Easy to use, innovative and fun, Foldify is suitable for all ages and can be enjoyed by anyone.
