Expensive Apps And Their Inexpensive Counterparts

Expensive Apps And Their Inexpensive Counterparts

We know that there are some really great apps at the app store, and there are also some really expensive ones too. While we are all wired to believe that the more we pay for an item the better it is, this isn’t necessary when it comes to apps at the app store. Developers often release great products for a lot less than their big name counterparts to get more people to think about their apps and to generate interest in their other ideas. Here are a few of the most well-known but expensive apps at the store and their cheaper counterparts.

We all love a dictionary app to let us know if we’re spelling things correctly as well as helping us to understand the meaning of a new word. A portable dictionary isn’t a new concept; there have been many forms of them over the years, but dictionary apps are one of the best selling in both the Apple app store and in the program stores of other smart devices. However, to get a great app you don’t need to be spending a lot of money. One of the most respected dictionary company’s Oxford released an app not too long ago and it has rocketed to the top of the most popular list. But it is also at the top of the most expensive app lists at $59.99 AU for the Oxford Deluxe pack on both the iPhone and the iPad. This app is great because it has a predictive text quality that guesses the word that you’re trying to spell. For example, if you want to know the meaning of the word negligence but you accidentally spell it nigligence the app will pick up on the mistake and place the correctly spelt word at the top of the search results. Apart from the meaning and synonyms of the word it will also tell you the origin and its different meanings; in the negligence example it will bring up the legal definition as well.

But there are a lot of other companies that have created some great dictionary apps that are free. One in particular is just called Dictionary but it also comes with the thesaurus feature and has a lot of the same aspects as the Oxford edition. This app will list the etymology of the word and its synonyms and it also comes with a pronunciation feature that will speak the word out loud if you want to know the correct way to say it.

The new iOS comes with a great reminders app that helps you to set alerts for tasks using the location settings. While many devices can upgrade to iOS there are still a few of the older models who can’t, and even more people who are looking for an all-in-one app that will not only set reminders but will help them to craft a to do list. The popular app 2Do is a great task app that gives users the added bonus of being able to sync their online calendar and e-mail reminders to this app. Updates can occur whenever the user chooses so they will always have the most up to date information on hand. Never be late to an appointment because of a time change with this app. It also utilises the location settings and will work with reminders. However, this app is $7.49 AU when Remember the Milk is free. Remember the Milk has a lot of positive comments and ratings at the app store for its easy to use design, the pretty lay out, and addition features such as syncing and the ability to create different levels of reminder. This app also allows use of the location services and has an easy method of entering tasks. Remember the Milk is free but you can upgrade to a pro account for additional fees.

But your mac mobile device isn’t just for work; you can also get some really fun games on it. Need for Speed Undercover International is a well known game for console devices but the iPhone game is twice the fun despite the smaller screen. You can race through a multitude of different environs with a number of missions and tasks that will have you coming back for more. The price of this app has changed a lot in the past few months and is now on sale for $1.99 AU but it is usually $5.99. If you’re in the mood for a racing game but don’t want to spend any money then Racing Live is the game for you. In this game you can race against the computer or other players to build up cash so you can upgrade your car.

Check out these apps today at the app store and remember that expensive is not always better.
