Describe It Free for iOS App Review
Every year has its big game that captures the heart of every iOS device owner and dominates every second of free time they have. Angry Birds goes without saying and it still has quite a stake in the mobile gaming market today while 2012 was of course the year everyone was addicted to Draw Something. But drawing is so last year and it is about time we all got addicted to something new and exciting and there is a new contender for the position of annoyingly addictive game. If you did play Draw Something you will almost certainly have come up against an opponent lacking in imagination as they would skip the challenge and just write their given word. They may be more at home with this one. Describe It Free is available now from the App Store and, as the name suggests, it is free but there is also a premium version for $0.99 that is ad-free, has more multiplayer options and more words.
Describe It is very similar to Draw Something except rather than drawing your given word you have to describe it without saying it and allow your opponent to guess what it is. To make it a little more fun and challenging, you will also be given a list of other keywords that you are not allowed to use so it is up to you to give clues on what your secret word is. How cryptic you are with them is up to you but there is a lot of room to be creative here and it is great fun.
Getting started is easy enough and you can choose to play against a friend, as chosen through Facebook or Twitter, or you can let the app itself designate you a random a partner from its server. Once the game starts you will be given a word to describe and to make sure it isn’t too easy, you only get 45 seconds to do so. This may sound restrictive but it would get boring quickly if it were too easy. If a word is too difficult for you then you can opt to skip it but this will cost you beans, which is the in-game currency. These can be earned by a correct guess so skips are not infinite.
That’s all there is to it but if there is one thing we have learnt from iOS games, it is that the simple ones are much more playable and this one is great fun. There is also less of a chance of cheating since you cannot just write the answer on the screen. You can have up to 10 games active at any one time if you feel like playing multiple opponents, while the premium version of the app will allow up to 4 players in a single game, which adds a nice competitive element to the proceedings. If you go for the free version then it works perfectly fine, you will just be subjected to adverts on a regular basis but since the full game is only $0.99, it won’t set you back much to download.
