Cool Features of Apple iOS5
Five months into the new iPad and already Apple are planning to upgrade. No, they haven’t released iPad 3 yet, but they are talking about the new operating system that is looking to be their best yet. iOS5 finally includes the upgrades that we have been wanting since the first generation iPhone and iPad, and it will soon be in our hot little hands. Here are a few of the most awesome things that are coming with the iOS5:
Lists, updates, to-do’s et cetera. There are hundreds of apps at the store that do this, but now Apple has finally caught on and making it standard. One really cool thing about this app is that it is location based. Let’s say you want to remind yourself to send that e-mail as soon as you get to work, you put the reminder in the app and set it to alert as soon as you enter the office. When you do your device will buzz or ring (you choose) as soon as you arrive. These alerts can be set to when you leave the office too, as well as when you enter a pre-existing location such as the supermarket. You’ll never forget the milk again!
This is one thing that I’ve always hated about the iPhone camera; it takes a while for it to load. With iOS5 the camera button will be on the lock screen so you don’t have to unlock the device and enter your PIN before you can snap a pic. They have also upgraded the camera functions by including the option of grid lines over the screen so your photo will look its best, and pinch-to-zoom. They have also made it so the volume up button works as the shutter as well as the camera icon on screen.
This handy app is best for the iPod touch and iPad; a text messenger service that uses wi-fi. Now you can send a text to someone even when you don’t have a phone! This app is great because you don’t have to worry about going over your cell phone bills, and it can be used when you run out of credit on your phone, too. The iMessage app also allows you to encrypt your messages so you don’t have to worry about sensitive data getting loose. This is a great service for professional who deal with personal matters such as doctors and lawyers, but parents will also love it because you can hide mentions of what you have bought your kids for Christmas.
New devices that come standard with iOS5 will have everything you need built in, so there’s no need to sync your device to a computer. This saves time when setting up your device for the first time, but it also means that you are free from any form of PC (even a Mac). Apple has said that they want to be known only as a mobile device company, and with this you are truly mobile. Other things besides set up can be done directly onto your device, from editing photos to making new e-mail folders to creating new play lists.
With wi-fi sync you don’t need a cord to make updates to your device. Every time you connect the device to a power source it automatically syncs and backs up any new content to iTunes or iCloud, without any input from you. Charge your phone overnight and wake up in the morning with your new movies and music ready to go.
Many people joke that Apple wants to take over the world, and this new feature in iOS5 might just help them do that. They are increasing the accessibility of their devices so everyone can use them. You can set custom flashes or vibrations for different notifications, so you know when you’re getting a text and when someone has replied to a Tweet. They have also improved VoiceOver and it now includes custom element labelling.
There is no word yet on when this new OS will be released, but interested parties can sign up to be alerted on the Apple website. While you’re there have a look at the iCloud and see what it will do for you.
