Convertible iPad/Mac Hybrid Patented by Apple
Steve Jobs has left no doubt regarding being doubtful about multitouch displays on notebook Macs and desktops- scrutinizing that multitouch works the best when the display is horizontal. Apart from that, anything else would lead to gorilla arm. And this is why touch screen computers failed in the first place.
So at the moment, this means that the multitouch options of Mac are going to be limited to some accessories like Magic Trackpad and Magic Mouse, but since iPad is highly successful, it is just natural that Apple is looking for a more direct approach for interaction with horizontal multitouch. In this multitouch, the display would be able to convert flush with a desk or lap, while it is working in the touch mode.
Just imagine how awesome it is going to be. Owning multitouch technology would soon be the in thing with all the geeks rushing to be the first one of their group.
And now there is a throng of new patents that are going in the bag of Apple. The most interesting one is the convertible notebook Mac to iPad like device.
Come to think about it, it is not too far out or a futuristic concept. Dell had launched a hybrid notebook/ tablet computer – Inspirion Duo, which uses the multitouch technology in a rather similar way. You can easily imagine now- a future notebook Mac ‘Air’, which is able to switch between OS X and iOS- only by changing the display orientation. This is perhaps where notebook integration with iOS is heading.
