Comet Launches Fire Sale amid Closure of Stores

UK based retailer Comet has today launched a massive stock liquidation sale with some stores offering up to 30% off items on the shop floor.

The stores, which are expected to close sometime within the next 2 weeks, opened their doors to the sale at 9AM on Thursday morning.  Some stores reported large ques while others reported little activity in what is expected to be “only a shallow sale of stock”

Within an hour of announcing its sale on the company’s website, it had crashed and was displaying a failure notice, and has now come back up.

Its been reported by some people on twitter that a comet store in Blackpool has completely sold out of apple products with some new iPad’s having 15% off.  Others on twitter have criticized the sale as a rip-off, pointing out that you can still buy products cheaper at Argos and online retailer Amazon.

Some users expressed disgusted that the items were not reduced further than they had expected while others said they had not even bothered going to their local store on news reports of lower than expected discounts.

With many stores offering discounts on Apple products however, its hard to see why most of these items will not be hanging around long in your local comet store.

Have you been to tour local Comet store?  Picked up a bargain Apple product or perhaps another piece of equipment for a great deal?
