Child Buys ?1,300 of In App Purchases With Out Parents Knowing –
We have heard reports today that a young boy has spent around ?1,300 on in app purchases on the app “Tap Zoo”. Ms Drager, 32, of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, said that she download the app for her son on the family iPad as it was free and looked like no threat. She was to be proven wrong 4 days later when she check her bank statement and seen ?1,300 to Apple , after looking in to it she found out her son had been buying in app purchases / upgrades with in the app.
One of the items which boosted this total was virtual animals which range between?1 to ?79.99. This is a very good reason why you should read all the writing when downloading an app for children as it does say at the top of the apps page that in app purchases are supported and you may want to disable this feature. Strangely Apple has refund the amount and an Apple’s spoke person then went on to say
‘We are proud to have industry-leading parental controls.
‘Parents can easily use our parental control settings to restrict app downloading and turn-off in-app purchasing.
‘In addition to a password being required to buy an app on the App Store a re-entry of your password is now required when making an in-app purchase.’
