Band of the Day for iOS App Review
It is always exciting when you discover a new band, especially when they have been around for a while and have a back catalogue for you to work through. Discovering new music often happens by accident. Maybe you hear a song on TV, maybe a friend plays you a song or maybe you hear something in a shop, but in the on-demand age, it is now even easier to explore music and discover new things. Last.FM is a shining example as it actively seeks music based on your personal preferences and now there is a great new app that gives you new music every day. Band of the Day is compatible with all iOS devices with version 5 or later and can be downloaded for free from the App Store now.
With Band of the Day installed you can discover new bands a lot more easily, a lot of them promising unknown bands just starting out, while many others have gone under the radar but one thing is for sure; with Band of the Day assisting you, you will find a lot of new talent you may have otherwise never heard of.
The app works by choosing a new band every day and providing you with a handful of songs to listen to for free. While you cannot own the songs for free, you will be able to stream them at will and there will be a direct link to buy them through iTunes, as well as other songs and albums by that band. In addition to the music, you can also access a generous amount of information about the band. There is a lot on offer here and you can read about their history, the individual members and anything else interesting about them that is included. There is also a guide to the music itself and you can find out all you need to know about their albums. In many cases there is also a selection of videos for your perusal. A slightly less useful feature displays tweets about the band but the quality of these varies. Nevertheless it is nice to have the option.
The app has a nice layout and looks pretty enough but obviously it is the sounds that provide the real appeal. It is easy to use and the prospect of a new band every day is hard to resist. If you don’t like the music one day then you can at least take comfort in the fact that the next day might be better. But whether the results are good or bad it is always a fun gamble and if you do get something good you can spend a few happy hours that day investigating the band in more detail.
Sharing is an option but largely unnecessary as you are ultimately looking for new music for yourself and this is a great way to go about it. This is a great package, especially for a free app and one that every music enthusiast should check out.
