Armed Robbery at Apple's Flagship Store in Paris

Robbers wielding masks and weapons used the New Years Eve celebrations as they broke into Apple’s flagship Paris Store which is located behind the Paris Opera house.

The thieves made off with iPads, iPhone’s and a large quantity of iPod Touches and Macbook’s and the bill is currently being put at somewhere between $800,000 and $1.3 Million, a figure police were not confirming.

The theft occurred 3 hours after closing time, around 9pm and most of the police officers were stationed at the Champs-Elysees Avenue, which was being used for the New Years Eve Paris Celebration.

Its thought that the armed robbers gained access to the store by threatening a janitor at the back entrance.  The janitor escaped with only minor injuries.

While in the store, the thieves did not take and of the items on display, instead going for the boxes of pre-packed stock in the stores warehouse and then loaded it all into a waiting parked truck, making their getaway about 9:40PM.

“They prepared their coup pretty well,” said Christophe Crepin, a representative of the French police union Unsa “since the essential bulk of police forces were mobilized to patrol the Champs-Elysees, the thieves clearly profited from the opportunity to make their move,” Crepin said.

The store director is still assessing the cost of the lost goods and neither Apple, nor the Paris Police were available for comment.
