Apple Buy's Fingerprint Company AuthenTec

Apple Buy's Fingerprint Company AuthenTec

Bio-metric security company AuthenTec has been snapped up by apple for $356 million (?226 million)!

AuthenTec specialises in fingerprint- and iris-recognition and there is a good possibility that the next generation iPhone could feature some of this technology in some form.  What is very interesting with this story, is that AuthenTec recently signed a seal with Samsung less than 2 weeks ago sparking more interest in the Apple/Samsung fight!

Apple may be trying to copy the Samsung Galaxy S 3’s new technology which keeps the phone screen lit while you look at the screen.

In Japan some of AuthenTec’s technology is used to authenticate mobile phone payments and this is another avenue which could be used in the next generation iPhone

The company also makes software that lets you connect to Virtual Private Networks (VPN’s) and this could be an attempt by Apple to make ground on some of its rivals phones such as the Windows Phone and Blackberry!

The next generation iPhone is expected in a September / October time-frame and all will hopefully be revealed when it arrives!
