Apple Ban Overturned By United States Administration

Apple Ban Overturned By United States Administration

In the first product veto ban since 1987, Barack Obama’s administration quashes a ban on imports of iPads and iPhones in the US.

The import and sale of the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 3G and iPad 2 3G distributed by AT&T Inc were banned by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) in June, siting a patent infringement.

Samsung said in a statement:

The ITC’s decision correctly recognized that Samsung has been negotiating in good faith and that Apple remains unwilling to take a licence,

Some of the products that were banned by the ITC are well over a year old, despite this, products like the iPhone 4 are still some of the best sellers for the company.

Apple and Samsung have been fighting a huge patent war since 2010 with multiple court cases and last year a federal court ruled that Samsung owed Apple over $1 billion in damages for non essential patent infringements.

The ruling was later updated to have $450 million wiped from it after the judge decided the jurors miscalculated the level of infringement.
