Apple Announce iPhone 5S In-Store Replacement Service
Apple have announced they will begin replacing damaged or broken iPhone 5S screens on August 4 with their in-store replacement service.
Apple currently have the technology to replace most screens on iPhones while you wait in the shop, however now it appears that those with an iPhone 5S will be able to share in the fun… Er ok maybe not fun…
It’s thought that Apple are expanding their repair operation to speed up transition times with a new product due soon, according to a close source of MacReviews who wishes to remain anonymous.
The source also claimed that while there were no details, AppleCare+ Customers would pay the usual $79 plus tax fee just as they would if sending the phone off by mail.
Current iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c screen replacements run $149 plus tax, but an iPhone 5s repair may be more expensive if the sapphire-covered Touch ID home button is also damaged.
So while it still costs a fair bit should you accidentally drop your phone, it’s certainly not as nearly time consuming or expensive as the alternative mail option.
Customers phones who have water damage or bent displays are currently exempt from the iPhone in-store repair service and still have to send their devices off by mail.
