Apple Activates Content Delivery Network For Public Use

Apple Activates Content Delivery Network For Public Use

It’s finally happening and Apple are not denying the launch of their eagerly awaited content delivery network which went live this morning.

For years Apple has had to rely on other publishers to deliver content to their users but as of today, it would appear that all of that is coming to a spectacular end.

Currently it is only a small portion of content that will be handled by the CDN and current players Akamai and Level3 are expected to continue to serve iTunes and iTunes Radio.

Apple have spent well over $100 Billion in creating their own content display network and this includes contracts with internet service providers and infrastructure costs associated with the network.

It’s thought that any change to the current system could seriously damage the current providers of content for Apple whom they rely on for almost 10% of their entire business.
